How to start an online business with no money & how to build a website and get traffic

Your website is your foundation of your business. It is where all of your traffic is ultimately going to come to, where you are going to build brand and trust within the industry, and where you can promote products/services and generate revenue!

Step 1: Choose the Kind of Website

There are really TWO options here, on a FREE website or on your OWN domain. Ideally, you will have your own domain, but that can come with time.

You can "register" your very own domains right within Wealthy Affiliate using our state of the art SiteDomains platform, which will allow you to instantly set-up your own domain for your own use.

If you are just starting out as a Starter member, you will be building a website on the .siterubix.com domain, which is a completely free website. You can build ONE FREE websites as a Starter.

As a Premium member, you can build and host up to 10 websites (including websites on your own domain). That is more than adequate to drive many multi-million dollar businesses over time and our hosting platform is industry leading in terms of speed, security, and reliability...all critical factors to running a successful online business.

For the sake of this training, we are going to be choosing "On a free domain".

Step 2: Choose a Domain

Remember last lesson when I chose my "brand". In this step, I am going to be placing my brand name into the "domain name" field. This is because this will be my website URL and my brand moving forward.

As you can see below, I have added my brand "Marketing With Kyle" into the domain field.

When you type in your domain, it will let you know if it is available or not. In my case it was, but if your first choice is not available simply do another search until you find a domain name that works for you.

You cannot put spaces in your domain name, hence why my domain is "marketingwithkyle".

Step 3: Choose a Website Name

The name of your website should match your domain, but it just needs to be grammatically correct (with proper spacing). You can see below my example of this:

Step 4: Choose a Design

The last step is choosing a "look" for your theme. As a Starter member you will have access to ONE theme that has been hand picked for quality, speed, security, and overall theme design.

As a Premium Member though you will have access to over 4,134 designs (as shown below) or your website and there are always new designs being added to this daily. These are referred to as "Themes".

Task 1: Delete the Dummy Page & Post

Your tasks in this lesson are all going to be very straightforward. You are going to be deleting "dummy" content that is automatically installed with every website. This is content that you will not be needing.

This likely will include:

• Sample page
• Sample privacy policy
• Sample post
• Sample comment

In this task we are going to go through and delete all of this content.

The first step is clicking the "Pages" tab. This will take you to your website Pages that are either in draft or published mode. What we want to do is delete the "Sample Page" here. 

When you "mouse over" the Sample Page link, a menu will pop up with a Trash link. Click that and you will delete this Page. There may also be a "Privacy Policy" page that you can delete as well. 

Then we are going to do the same thing with Posts.

Click the Posts tab, within the side menu. Then mouse over the Hello World post and click the "Trash" button.

Task 2: Navigating the Back Office of Your Site

This next one is simple, I just want you to acquaint yourself and have a look around the "back office" area over your website.

As with anything NEW, it can appear overwhelming at first but I can assure you before long you are going to be very proficient with the website build process. Just like your first day of school, it might seem a bit foreign. All we want you to do in this task is have a look around the different tabs and areas of the admin area.

We are going to be covering the various aspects of Wordpress and how to use much of these tools in upcoming lessons and you are going to be very proficient with Wordpress before you know it.

Task 3: If There Are Any Updates Available, Update.

Sometimes, depending on the timing of your 'website install', there will be updates available. Wordpress is a quickly evolving platform, so updates do happen quite frequently. These are sometimes feature improvements, sometimes they are security updates.

When there are updates available, you will se them directly under the Dashboard side menu, under the Updates link.

In the case of my website here, there are 4 available updates. This could be a combination of a Wordpress version update, plugin updates, or theme updates.

I simply click this button and it will take me to an overview of all updates. 

The first thing I see is an updated version of Wordpress being available, so I update this. Click the "Update Now" button, and this will walk you through the process of updating Wordpress to the latest version.

You have made some wonderful accomplishments in just your first 10 lessons of Bootcamp thus far! Kudos to you on your hard work. :)

You not only have set out on a journey to carve yourself out as an authority online, you have the underpinnings and structure set up for a long term and very successful business online.

**Note: It took me 3 months to make my first sale online. Here I am 15 years later full time online, if I quit in the first month I would have never gotten to experience of lifelong and very fruitful business online. There is something to be said about being patient and not expecting "instant" success in business.

MONTH 6: Accomplishments

• Traffic is starting to flow, ideally 100 uniques per day
• Sales start to increase with consistency, several per week

• Companies and other blogger start to reach out and connect with you

• You have 100-150 posts on your website

TWO YEARS:

• Your business is truly starting to thrive
• You are definitely a noticeable force in the search engine world. Google ranks your new content with 24 hours of it being posted.
• You are earning a full time income online
• Vegas is yours, you have most definitely made it
• You have 200-300 posts on your site
• Earning Potential: $10,000-$30,000+ per moth

5 YEARS:

• Your are a brand/authority in the industry
• You have a full time+ business online, likely 6 figures plus annually

• You likely have made several hires, including writers, design help, and a virtual assistant

Double Down on Commissions.
